The Challenge

During my tenure at Rogers, the Sportsnet.ca NHL property faced significant performance bottlenecks during peak hockey season. We needed to modernize the frontend while simultaneously drastically reducing the strain on the backend infrastructure.

Technical Triumphs

1. Extreme Backend Optimization

I led the effort to optimize the database architecture, resulting in a 90% reduction in database workload. This wasn't just a performance boost; it was a survival requirement that ensured 100% availability during the high-traffic NHL playoffs.

2. Dynamic Migration Strategy

To manage the transition from legacy themes to a modern, hockey-centric design without interrupting service, I built a custom Dynamic Theme Switcher. This allowed us to deploy the new look in phases while maintaining cost and operational flexibility.

3. CMS Modernization

I spearheaded the core upgrade from WordPress 3 to WordPress 4, unifying content management tools for all editors. This move streamlined the production pipeline for hundreds of journalists and media producers across the network.
